When You Help - More Gets Done
The seeds of NSEA sprouted around the dining room tables of dedicated volunteers in 1988. Today, NSEA continues to be governed by a volunteer board of directors and thousands join our community work parties annually to make real - tangible - improvements to salmon habitat. Community volunteers are the strength of salmon recovery in Whatcom County.
Currently recruiting for:
Work Party VOlunteers
Our community events are great for anyone interested in getting outside, giving back to the environment, and improving salmon habitat.
Open to all ages and no experience needed. These events can also accommodate large groups. Visit our Stream Stewards Program page for details and a schedule of current events.
Restoration Prep Support (Blue Tubes)
NSEA plants tens of thousands of trees and shrubs each year. Many of these plants require a protective cover called a blue tube. Assembling these to build up a stockpile on our campus helps restoration technicians maximize their time when out in the field.
Task: Assemble blue tubes for our stockpile. This task is perfect for someone that wants simple repetitive work that has a relaxed time commitment. No prior knowledge or skills are required.
Schedule: Flexible schedule that can change weekly. We ask that you commit a minimum of 30 minutes per shift during business hours, roughly 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Work environment: Independent, indoors and/or outdoors
Physical requirements: Requires two hands with some dexterity, standing or sitting.
Translator
NSEA wants to be able to better connect with everyone in our community which means needing to adapt materials into languages commonly used in Whatcom County.
Task: Translate online materials from English to another language
Schedule/Environment: This task allows for a flexible schedule that can change weekly and be done remotely or at NSEA’s office. Check-ins with staff would need to occur during office hours which are roughly 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Required skill: Fluency in Spanish, Ukranian, and/or Punjabi
Board Member
Join the NSEA Board, helping lead the organization throughout the year. Recruitment begins in the summer, with most board positions starting January 1st. This is a really fun way to stay involved with NSEA.
Schedule: Committees meet monthly for 2 hours, and board meetings are once a month for two hours. Contact Cindy Scott, cscott@n-sea.org for more information.
