Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association is proud to announce that its strong financial health and ongoing accountability and transparency has earned a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator. This rating designates NSEA as an official “Give with Confidence” charity, indicating that our organization is using its donations effectively based on Charity Navigator’s criteria. Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent charity evaluator. Since 2001, the organization has been an unbiased and trusted source of information for more than 11 million donors annually.
The above photo is of Rose Anne, a landowner who worked with NSEA to remove a barrier culvert on her property in 2016. She had never seen a salmon in the 30+ years she lived along this tributary of Goodwin Creek.
Coho returned almost immediately after project completion. In November 2018, Rose Anne reported seeing nine coho in one hour. November 2019, she heard them return just as she was settling for the night. The next morning, she counted 77 in the time she was watching.
Rose Anne doesn’t count the salmon anymore. Now she sits on her deck and listens to the eagles chortle in the tree tops, their bellies full of salmon.
Become a monthly donor
Why make monthly gifts?
It's sustained support. Recurring gifts help us plan for the future and increases the scale of the work it takes to help recover salmon.
Peer to peer fundraiser
Peer-to-peer fundraising is when individuals organize personal campaigns to collect donations from their peers. These fundraisers can include asking for donations via crowdfunding, throwing occasion-specific fundraisers (like birthdays fundraisers), and participating in events like team fun runs. Send Amy your idea and we will help you make it a reality. ajohnson@n-sea.org
Each of these giving methods offers unique advantages that can enhance your charitable experience while providing vital resources to NSEA. We encourage you to consult with your financial advisor to determine the best approach for your situation.
Thank you once again for your continued support. Your commitment to our mission is invaluable, and we look forward to the impactful work we can achieve together.
Make a stock donation
Giving Stocks or Appreciated Assets
Donating appreciated stocks or other assets can be a highly effective way to support NSEA. When you give stocks that have appreciated in value, you avoid paying capital gains taxes that would otherwise apply if you sold them. By donating these assets directly to NSEA, you can deduct the full fair market value of the gift on your tax return. This strategy allows you to support our mission while maximizing your charitable impact. Please contact Amy Johnson ajohnson@n-sea.org
The benefits of donating stock to charity
Avoid capital gains tax
Gifting stock avoids federal capital gains tax and most donors can also claim an income tax deduction for the stock's full market value (state & local income tax deductions may also be available in some areas).
Make a bigger impact
When you give appreciated stocks directly to charity, your gift can be up to 20% larger because you avoid the taxes you’d incur from selling and donating the cash. This means more money going to the work that you support.
IRA Rollover
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
If you are 70½ years old or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) directly to NSEA. This distribution can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year and is not subject to federal income tax, allowing you to support our work while also reducing your taxable income. A QCD is an excellent way to give back while ensuring your retirement funds are put to good use.
Donor Advised Funds
Grants from Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
If you have a donor advised fund, you can recommend grants to NSEA from this fund. This option allows you to contribute to our cause while potentially maximizing your tax deductions. Donor advised funds are a great way to engage in philanthropic giving by enabling you to manage your charitable contributions strategically. By recommending a grant to NSEA, you can play an active role in supporting our mission while enjoying the benefits of your DAF.
Make an everlasting gift with NSEA
There are many ways to make your gift everlasting. You can contribute to one of NSEA’s endowment funds. Pick the fund that aligns with your philanthropic goals and your gift will grow with the market.
You can make a bequest gift through NSEA’s planned giving program. Meet with us to share your dreams. We will walk you through the options and ensure that the future NSEA knows what to do to create your legacy. Please contact Amy Johnson ajohnson@n-sea.org to learn more.
