Volunteers removed over eight tons of trash at the July 5th Birch Bay Beach Cleanup

Thank you again to the hundreds of volunteers who spent the Sunday after July 4th cleaning up firework debris from the beaches of Birch Bay. Over eight tons of trash (an estimated weight equivalent to a large T-Rex) was removed over the weekend by dedicated volunteers, some of whom started at sunrise.
The annual July 5th beach cleanup has been a community-led effort for years to protect the people, wildlife, and beauty of Birch Bay.
A huge shoutout to our partners, the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce, Whatcom County, and the Whatcom Conservation District, who made it possible to bring the community together to help protect Birch Bay. Photo credit: WCD and BBCC.
