The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) has worked to bring salmon home in Whatcom County since 1991. This page explains what happens to information when you visit n-sea.org, in plain language.
The short version
You can read every page on this website without telling us who you are. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or any other personal information anywhere on the site. We do count visits, so that we know which pages are useful and where people get stuck. We never sell or rent information about our visitors.
What we measure
We use three tools to understand how the website is doing. All three report on visitors as a group rather than as individuals.
- Our own visit counter. This is built into the website itself. It records the page you viewed and the website that sent you here. It does not use cookies and it does not store your IP address.
- Google Analytics. This gives us the numbers we report to funders: how many people visit, which pages they read, roughly what part of the world they are in, and whether they are on a phone or a computer. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can read Google’s privacy policy, and you can opt out of it on every website you visit with Google’s browser add-on.
- Microsoft Clarity. This shows us how people move through a page: what they click, how far they scroll, and where they hesitate. It helps us find layouts that are confusing so we can fix them. Clarity hides the text you type before the recording is saved. You can read Microsoft’s privacy statement.
Our web host also keeps standard server logs, which include visitor IP addresses. Those logs exist to keep the site running and to protect it from attacks, and they are deleted on a regular schedule.
Cookies
The website itself sets cookies only for NSEA staff who sign in to update it. The analytics tools above set their own cookies, which you can block or clear in your browser settings. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
When you leave our website
Several things you can do from this site happen on another company’s website, and each one has its own privacy policy that takes over once you get there:
- Donations are handled by Give Lively.
- Fish Bytes, our newsletter, is handled by Mailchimp.
- Volunteer work party sign-ups are handled by VolunteerHub.
- Our videos and photos live on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
When you give us your name and email through one of those services, we receive it and we use it for the reason you gave it to us. We use it to send you the newsletter, to thank you for a gift, or to tell you about the work party you signed up for. We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it.
Students and young people
Our education programs serve students from preschool through high school, and we take their privacy seriously. This website does not collect information from children. Registration for Students for Salmon, Camp Keystone, Keystone Nature Preschool, and our internships happens directly with our staff, and those records are kept by NSEA rather than on this site.
Photos of people
Many of the photographs on this website show volunteers, students, staff, and landowner partners at work. If you appear in a photo here and would rather not, please email us and we will take it down.
Questions, or a request
Write to us at info@n-sea.org or call (360) 715-0283 and ask us anything about this policy. If you would like us to correct or delete information we hold about you, tell us and we will take care of it.
