NSEA’s Salmon Soirée

Please join us for an evening of celebration and community impact at NSEA’s third annual fundraiser. Every dollar raised will support healthy watersheds, engaged volunteers, and empowered students across Whatcom County to keep wild salmon here for future generations.
Enjoy a special guest appearance by Lynda Mapes (author of The Trees are Speaking), dinner, drinks, a live auction, and more.
Haunted Habitat Tour
Fri, Oct 30 · 10am – 12:30pm · NSEA Campus (3057 E Bakerview Rd, Bellingham)
Visit restoration projects on Goodwin Creek that showcase culvert removals, bridge installations, and large woody debris placements in partnership with local landowners to improve instream habitat for salmon. Bring your Halloween spirit (and attire if you’d like), enjoy the fall atmosphere, and help us watch out for zombie salmon along the way! RSVP required.
Salmon Sighting – Oyster Creek

Join us to watch spawning chum salmon at Oyster Creek. Staff from NSEA and Skagit Fisheries will be on hand to answer questions and share insights on the salmon life cycle and local habitat restoration work.

Join us to watch spawning chum salmon at Chuckanut Creek. Staff from NSEA will be on hand to answer all your fishy questions!
Location: Parking is at the North Chuckanut Mountain Trailhead. This site requires a walk along Chuckanut Drive or utilizing the Interurban Trail both of which include inclines. Sturdy shoes are recommended and carpooling are recommended!

Salmon Sighting – Fishtrap Creek

Join us to watch spawning coho salmon at Fishtrap Creek. Knowledgeable staff from NSEA and the Whatcom Conservation District will be on hand to answer all your salmon questions and provide insight on salmon ecology and the many connections to water conservation and protection!

Our licensed, nature-based outdoor program will support your child’s social, physical, and emotional growth while connecting them to their natural world in a safe group setting. Financial aid is available for families who qualify.

Community work parties run year-round! Most are on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Tools, gloves, and training are provided, no experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome!

Salmon Sighting Events & Salmon Spotters Project
When spawning salmon return, we host open-house Salmon Sighting events at streams around the county. Fall is also when new Salmon Spotters train for the citizen science season.
